Samoaja was found as a solo project by Viktori Pesonen, the singer/songwriter of the band in the autumn of 2014, while studying in Suomen Raamattuopiston Musiikkilinja. In that autumn the debut release ”Them Birds”-EP was recorded and released. The following spring Vesa (piano) and Pentti (e-guit) joined the band. The trio performed a couple of shows before a new member Onni (drums) was added to the line up later on in the autumn of 2015. Their second release ”& The Depressed”-EP was released with a single and music video of their song ”Rebels From The Womb” in the summer of 2016. Later on that year the fifth member Samppa (bass) joined the band. Since 2014 the act has been noted multiple times in the Finnish media (Radio Dei and Bassoradio) and done more than 70 live shows around Finland, Sweden and the UK (of which 50 have been since the year 2017). The group got recognition in Bassoradio after gaining an art fund from the radio channel’s grant campaign called ”NOST€”. The group got the aid because of potential in succeeding abroad. The group released their debut album ”Landscapes” with a single of their song ”Mountain” in november 2017. In december 2017 Vesa decided to leave the band and Arttu Mäkinen joined to play the keyboard. Since then they have toured Finland with a UK based singer/songwriter Joe McCorriston for 9 dates and in the UK with another UK singer/songwriter Mike West for 13 shows in a two week period.
